As the festive season draws near, collectors across the world are making the trip to these parts where flourishing historic pieces will be on display.

Although understanding art can be intimidating, especially if it’s a green field for a prospective buyer, there are key tricks to the trade a budding connoisseur can learn to raise one’s confidence level before making the first purchase. The points I’ve shared in this article shows you how.

Do your research

Every piece of art you find is either a great investment or a sink-hole. Taking time out to study the textures, colours and medium can hone your intuition at discerning quality items from adulterated objects, saving you a ton of money in the process.

Set a budget but be flexible
